Chicago-based Hip-Hop MC/Producer Neak was bound to capture the same soulful essence of his father, Robert Kelly of the ‘60s R&B soul group “The Kelly Brothers.” With soul and gospel music playing constantly throughout his household growing up, Neak soaked in stories from his father and uncles on their glory days of touring alongside legacy artists such as James Brown, Sam Cooke, Patti LaBelle, etc. It was only a matter of time before those stories became the backdrop for his inspiration to create music.

Cam Be is a film director, photographer, musician, DJ and music producer. He is based out of Chicago and is the Owner and Creative Director of Camovement. As an elevated songwriter/producer, Cam Be has created a soulful, true-to-heart niche that translates through the spirit of song–bringing human experiences together at a relatable core.

Together, the two prolific artists have joined forces to collaborate as a group entitled, “a film called black”, bringing their lifelong experience to music and film; questioning the idea of black, who gets to define it, and how do we, as a society, live out this concept of it on a conscious and subconscious level. Stylistically, Cam Be + Neak is engulfed in hip-hop, soul, jazz, and gospel flavors that highlight various aspects of black culture. Their group efforts, featuring the likes of Skyzoo, Sam Thousand, Oliv Blu, Add-2, Yaw, Rashid Hadee, and more. Album coming 2024.

FILM

King’s Speech is a short film that weaves together personal testimony, artistic process, and visual symbolism to explore two central questions: What is Blackness? And who gets to define it?

Through intimate interviews with Black fathers, King’s Speech reflects on the meaning of kingship—both inherited and self-made. These narratives unfold alongside behind-the-scenes footage of Chicago artists Cam Be and Neak as they create the song "King’s Speech," forming a layered conversation between art and identity.
